Built by locals,
with New Public
Roundabout is stewarded by Sam and Liza, two people who've been building community and creative projects in Richmond for years. We're part of New Public's network of digital public spaces built for communities, not engagement metrics.
Richmond has always been a city that punches above its weight for its size. We've got a creative community that actually shows up, neighborhoods with distinct personalities, businesses and venues doing interesting work, and people who care about making the city better.
But there wasn't a good way to keep track of it all. Social media shows you posts from three states over before it shows you the gallery opening down the street. The algorithm hides your posts from your own followers. Facebook groups are a mess. Eventbrite feels like work.
Richmond deserved better infrastructure for its community. So when New Public was looking for cities to launch digital public spaces, we said yes. We're building the platform Richmond should have had all along.
Sam and Liza have been building community and creative projects in Richmond for years. Between running coworking spaces, throwing events, working on local platforms, and staying plugged into what's happening across the city, we know Richmond's neighborhoods, creative scene, and the people making things happen. We're here because we live here and want the city to have better infrastructure for connection.
Roundabout is built on New Public's platform for digital public spaces. New Public helps communities create alternatives to big tech social media—places designed for community connection instead of endless scrolling and engagement optimization.
We're one of many city-based spaces in their network, each stewarded by locals who know their communities. The platform gives us the tools, we bring the local knowledge and curation.
A platform that serves the community, not shareholders. A place where finding out what's on tonight doesn't require scrolling past 47 sponsored posts. Where recommendations come from people who actually live here and have something at stake.
We're not trying to replace Instagram or become the next big social network. We're building infrastructure for Richmond—a digital third space where you can figure out what's happening and connect with your neighbors.
